The world is today rapidly drifting to technological way of doing things, most of activities today are automated and computerised to improve efficiency and production. ICT thefore emerge as one of the key fields in the sciety to study today. There is vast oppotunitie related to this field ranging from Computer service to technician, to business analyst, to cybersecurity, to database administrator,...,system developer, etc. The beautiful thing with studying IT is apart from many employement opportunities, one can also deploy his or her skills to self employment like developing softwares for sale. In CCMRS, it is offered in the department of Health Records and IT.

Diploma in Information and Communication Technology (DICT)

Minimum entry point for this course is C- in KCSE, with at least C- in mathematics, c- in English/Kiswahili. One requires an a laptop to efficiently cover this course and become ready for market. It is externally examined by KNEC. It takes 3yrs to complete that is 6 semesters and 2 attachements.

Health records and information Technology equips the learner with knowledge, skills, and abilities to operate in and or manage the health records department in a hospital, any data section, or research firm, being able to collect, store and retrieve data both manually and electronically using the current technology. Health records technicians and technologist are also equipped with knowledge and skills in ICT including system analysis and design, networking, and programming, enabling them to offer various ICT services such as website development, troubleshooting, and repair, cabling, and networking among others.

ATTACHMENT 1: Will be undertaken in a level 3,4 or 5 hospital which will last for 12 weeks (40 hours per week) equivalent of 3 months

ATTACHMENT 2: Will be undertaken in any referral hospital or any level 6 hospital. Will last for 12 weeks (40 hours per week) equivalent to 3 months.

    Perioperative Theatre Technology

    Perioperative theatre technology prepares individuals to work in the operation theatre as a competent reliable technologist/technicians among the other team members of a healthcare department, under the supervision and guidance of doctors and Technical persons in their delivery of patient care. They learn the utilization of numerous diagnostic equipment and also patient assessment abilities. Training concentrates on the knowledge and skills of monitoring infection control policy and procedures in the operation theatre.
    Operation theatre Technicians/technologists work in Operation Theatre of hospitals, Emergency Departments and Intensive Care Units. Their main responsibility is to assist and help Doctors and Surgeons during surgery and emergency procedures. Operation Theatre experts are generally part of a team that comprises of Doctors, attendants, nurses and other healthcare service professionals

    • Responsible for ensuring that the lighting, sound, and other technical aspects of theatre performances run safely, smoothly, and on time.
    • To make sure that theatre equipment is kept in good working order and that all those using or exposed to it are safe.
    • Play a significant role in supporting health care professionals while dealing with patient care.
    • Possesses thorough knowledge regarding the various aspects of working in an operation theatre such as biomedical waste management and infection control.
    • Required to prepare the operation theatre, maintain equipment, sterilization, personal hygiene, and assist the nurses and surgeons in various procedures during and after the surgery.
    • An Operation Theatre Technician needs to be courteous and empathetic with patients and relatives who may be mentally, physically, and emotionally distressed from time to time.

    Nutrition and Dietetics (ND)


    A nutritionist is an expert in the use of food and nutrition to promote health and manage diseases. They are specialists who advise people on what to eat in order to lead a healthy lifestyle or manage diseases like diabetes, HIV/AIDS, Cancers, Renal diseases, genetic disorders. Nutrition as a science and an art is evidenced to play a vital role in human growth and development, productivity and well-being and has become a mandatory aspect for management of communicable diseases which is on the rise.


    EXAMINATIONS


    A student will be required to undertake both internal and external (KNEC) examinations. Any student who shall not undertake internal examinations will not be enrolled in external exams.

    Knec examinations will be done in term three and term six for that undertaking certificate and in terms 3, 6, and 9 for those undertaking the diploma program.

    The KNDI licensing exam will be undertaken after all required KNEC exam modules have been undertaken.

    At the end of the course, a student will be required to undertake licensing exams by KNDI at their cost.

    • Dietitians and nutritionists help prevent or support the treatment of health conditions such as Malnutrition, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, genetic disorders, HIV/AIDS, Renal, Allergic reactions, and heart diseases among others. Many dietitians and nutritionists provide personalized information for individuals. For example, a dietitian or nutritionist might teach a client with diabetes how to plan meals to improve and balance the person’s blood sugar. Other dietitians and nutritionists work with groups of people who have similar needs. For example, a dietitian or nutritionist might plan a diet with healthy fat and limited sugar to help clients who are at risk for heart disease. Dietitians and nutritionists may work as part of a team with other healthcare staff to coordinate client care.

    This programme gives the Students an opportunity to learn to assist patients with daily living duties, such as feeding, bathing and grooming, as well as perform basic patient care procedures, like take vital signs and dress IVs. The students learn computer application skill and record keeping enabling them to manage any outpatient clinic. Students also participate in a clinical experience which includes a mandatory number of both classroom and clinical training hours.

    Community health and development is a developing and changing process that involves both the social and the health contexts. It operates on the basis of three approaches to care: primary care, health promotion, and community development Strengthening and enhancement of community health and development skills in Africa and the region are critical for sustainable communities and societies in a country. Commonwealth College of Medical and Related Studies recognizes the need for skilled individuals within communities and therefore provides an opportunity for capacity building in Community Health and Development. The course is designed to provide the student with basic skills and knowledge to students who prepare for a career in community health and development. Graduates can work as Community health development officers, Community Health Extension Officers, Counselors, Peer counselors, Health educators, Community mobilizers, Project development managers, Community Health Assistants, etc.

    Community health is a medical specialty that focuses on the physical and mental well-being of people in a specific geographic region. This important subsection of public health includes initiatives to help community members maintain and improve their health, prevent the spread of infectious diseases and prepare for natural disasters.

    Universally, many people continue to suffer from preventable communicable and non-communicable diseases. The need for capacity building in the field of health promotion and development has been compounded by emerging and re-emerging health challenges/issues such as road traffic injuries, occupational health hazards, inequities, and inequalities. This program aims at producing Community Health professionals capable of addressing health issues by responding effectively, developing, managing, and evaluating health programs, and proposing viable alternatives at the community levels.

    The program also prepares students to effectively plan, develop, implement and evaluate community health programs. Community health professionals work to improve the health and well-being of entire communities.
